"Burton Duke of Edinburgh Open Award Group is one of the largest in the Staffordshire. We often have up to 100 candidates in the field undertaking map reading and navigation assessments and then camping out. It is vital that we know where the Groups are located and ensure that they follow the correct routes, or at least have the ability to correct their errors and we are in control of all risks. We elected to use Mapyx Quo for routing and tracking. We can now track all of our groups in the field, know where they are at any time and mobilise Leaders to advise when necessary. Last weekend we had 85 students on assessment and all groups were tracked throughout. Leaders could simply radio into base station to determine locations of groups and analyse any navigation errors. This provided the Leaders with essential information to optimise safety of the candidates whilst increasing the groups feeling of independence. One of the candidates suffered a minor emergency and the candidates followed proper protocol, radioed in the problem and Leaders were immediately informed and mobilised to an exact location. The Mapyx technology permits us to educate candidates safely and ensure that we can immediately respond to any situation quickly and efficiently."

Martin Hulbert - Burton - DofE Leader - September 2010.
